The Watch Birds

On several occasions, these chickadees have landed very near me (about a foot away) and seemed to study me close. Hopefully, they have judged me to be something other than a threat. One dive-bombed me this afternoon, when "he" came down out of the tree branch to swoop close over head. It seemed more playful than anything else, but I was also working near a dead white pine that might be doubling as a condo for them.

It's entirely possible they were hoping to remind me to fill the feeder on the greenhouse window with some fresh safflower, so I did that, too. I've also taken an old broken-seated wooden chair and turned it into a birdbath. I've only just arrived here, but their families have been here forever, so I'm definitely taking the time to make sure its still nice for them.

Red winged blackbirds are singing from the trees nearby now, and a cardinal sang from the apple tree for a while earlier. Moved more rocks today, weeded out some grasses, planted some yellow and white lilies, and potted up some yellow dahlia tubers. I found some onions growing amongst the strawberries and irises, as well as an apple tree seedling to be rescued from the shade of the forest edge. Also tended to some more raking, so the blisters are fresh, and although it's early to come in from the Green, a hot shower beckons: there's a movie to be seen tonight.  Posted by Hello
