Something Wild and Yellow

 Posted by Picasa

I've been keeping my eye on these plants. I spotted them early in the season, round furry basal leaves growing in a cluster, and have been interested to see what they would turn out to be. This morning, a few of them have burst forth with these flower clusters on two foot stems.

The flowers themselves seem to be quite similar to hawkweed (shown below), but that has a different leaf (tho the same basal arrangment), and the flowers bloom singularly on the stalk. So, back to the species guides to see what I can learn.
