When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

And so the Third Weekend of November arrived, and found us in New Jersey for my cousin Deb's wedding. We were blessed with great weather for the drive south and that, I'm happy to say, continued throughout the weekend.

This is a garden blog, so it'd be wrong for me to omit some of the flowers blooming in containers outside the hotel lobby, like this purple and white pansy, and white flowering Kale, but they were hardly the focus of the trip.

A wedding always seems like a sweet way to kick off a family reunion, and this one was almost as beautiful as the Bride or the weather.

Congratulations to Deb and Joel: "May God be with you and bless you, May you see your children's children. May you be poor in misfortune and rich in blessings. May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward."

The reception was hosted at a place called Victor's Chateau. Despite promises to myself to not think about being a catering director for the weekend, I couldn't resist taking some pictures and mental notes of their presentations. It never hurts to bring home a little inspiration as a souvenir from a few days off.

They sure treated us right, and we had a foot-stompin', eatin' and dancin' good time!

Of course, some people always have more fun than others!

It sure was terrific to have so many of the cousins in one place!

These days we are scattered around a bit--between us we represent New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, California and Luxembourg--and unfortunately we don't get together as often as we'd like. But when we do, we sure have a heck of a good time!

I put together a slide show with some more of the photos from the weekend, so anyone who's interested in checking out our Highlights Reel can click on that link to see it. I've just gotta say here...we have the best family! I wish everyone had one just like ours--we can't help but have fun when we get together. When the time comes for counting blessings, my dear clan will always top My List!!

Saturday brought reminders of the changing seasons, as the hotel staff set out the first of their holiday decorations.

As you can see, a few busy little elves decided to rearrange some of them.

Although our plans to actually visit the City came to naught (it was for the best, really...), I was able to get to the Jersey shore of the Hudson, below the Palisades (above) for a nice look across the river at my favorite city. It sure is wider here than in North Creek!!

Even though it's been over five years since the events of September 2001, this was the first time I've laid eyes on New York, and it was still a shock to me not to see the WTC Twins towering over the southern end of Manhattan.

It was more of a surprise, though, to turn my eyes north and see what looks like a ghost of them in the Time Warner Towers of mid-town.

All too soon the weekend was over and it was time to head out in our various directions. We made our "so longs" seasoned with plenty of promises to stay in touch and to do what we could about getting together again real soon!
