Windshield Impressions: Another Roadtrip

Greetings from the chilly Adirondacks!! Another week, another roadtrip. Today I made the trip from the Cape up to the mountains for a Thanksgiving visit. It was a pretty decent day for traveling, and I managed to get some decent shots along the way...starting with this one (above), as I traveled up Route 495, under a sky right out of the opening from "The Simpsons."

Seeing another of the flag displays that have become so common in this last five years reminded me to spare a thought or two for our service folks serving in Iraq.

Whether or not we agree with the reasons for American forces being there, you can't deny that they are there...or that they're sacrificing their own holiday plans with family. If you have a moment (that's really all it takes!), Xerox has created a terrific website where you can send a thank you card to someone over there.

Take the time to let them know they haven't been forgotten!

Maybe its just the Sim City Geek in me, but one of the things I always enjoy about these long trips (you have to find something, right?) is seeing the way the good highways have been incorporated into the landscape...from the trees saved (or replanted)to those places where the highway path's been blasted right through rock.

Of course no tour of the landscape is possible these days without seeing plenty of Temples to the American dreams (nightmares, more like) of Gas Guzzling and Obesity.

Although the middle part of the trip was bright and sunny, the clouds found me again at the western end of the Mass Pike, as I approached New York State.

No matter, anyway, as dusk was rapidly falling and the time for taking pictures had passed. More tomorrow, though, by light of day. I'm glad to say that, with the exception of a flurry or two in my headlights, there appears to be no real snow to speak of here. At least not yet!!
