Clouds of Lightning

Here's a few screen captures from the storm that rolled through around 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

Seems you live at an exciting place, btw I've read your last ommentary at „Sooo-this-is-me“ and btw it seems you have got a few new admirers, but you're so worth it. ;-)

A symphony of roiling celestial purple!

Here's hoping you didn't get socked with too much rain from that-- just enough to keep the posies happy. :)

That is pretty much what we see here every day now. Last night on the local news they called this "the summer that was rained out" I have to agree. :(

I love this time of year when we get to see the meteor showers, I have a lot of great past memories of watching the night sky with friends.

Exciting is in the eye of the beholder, I'd say, Martin...but between the Olympics on TV and the power of Mount Olympus outside the door, I guess it was sort of an exciting evening!

Joe, isn't it amazing?? I'm loving this screen capture business...it happens so quickly in real-time, you don't quite realize the "purpleness"!

Jenn, the heaviest rains came in the afternoon, and if flooding occurred (I wouldn't be at all surprised), it had soaked in by the time I got home from work. We did have showers on and off throughout the night, though nothing especially heavy.

Steven, I'm sorry to hear of your perpetual sogginess this year. Yuck. We've at least been having bits of sunshine in between, tho the balance seems to be shifting toward rain as the season wears on.

I know the garden's looking a little bedraggled, and I hope I'll have time for some dead-heading and tidying this evening.

Fantastic stormy sky pictures Greg. I love all the swirly effects of the clouds. Thanks for visiting my blog! :)

How fitting that as I look at your sky shots, the Blue Danube waltzes in. I can't hear that music without envisioning the dance between the shuttle and the space station in 2001.

Dark skies always hold such allure and power.

I love the dynamics of a storm especially with the wind, dark clouds, lightning and the final cry of lightning, thunder and rain. You captured it perfectly.

I'm so tired of summer not starting yet, it just rains and rains. I'm not that far from you...are you stuck in this same weather pattern?

Last winter was the 2nd all time record for snow here, just off by centimetres for all the all time snowiest winter ever.

PG, visiting your blog was a pleasure--love your insect photos, and hope you'll do some IDing at BugGuide.net--I want to hear more about that creepy spider!

Birdie, that's one of those Great Moments in Cinema, isn't it? I love how my tunes so often synch up just right for you!

Butch, what a lovely description! Have you had any storms near you lately? I know you've said they were rare out there.

Alan, I'm sorry to hear about your weather pattern...it does sound like you all are in a bit of a muddy rut up there! We've been getting just enough sunshine in between storms to make it summery. I hope you get some sunshine real soon!

Joe is so eloquent, isn't he? I see pretty purple storm clouds. Then I read Joe's comment about roiling celestial purple. Yes! That's exactly what I mean!

Pretty pictures, Greg. :)

Not many kite-flying days this year, it looks like. Hopefully you'll get some catch-up summer before too long!

Oh Greg, the simple beauty of these stormy cloud shots really caught my eye. They are gorgeous and I love how you took each one from the same place. They would make a cool slide show, watching the storm progress. You are very creative with your photographic ideas. Don't you just love it? I do. :)
