Thumper George, 1997 - 2008

I'm sorry to report to you all that our bunny, Thumper George, passed on to the golden fields of Frith this morning.

George was eleven years old, which means he's had a pretty long and happy life for a domestic bunny. In his early years, we briefly tried him out as an indoor bunny, but he (and the phone cords) preferred that he live outdoors. He shared a home his first year with (and had hoped for romance with) our guinea pig, Sweetie.

He's traveled with us for each of our six moves in the last ten years, so he was one of the most well-traveled rabbits I know. One day, he actually spoke to me...or so it seemed at the time.

Spent pansy blossoms were his particular favorite treat. I won't know what to do with my dead- headings this summer.

Here's a photo of T.G. and his big sis, Emily, taken in Wellfleet about seven years ago.

We will miss you, George.

A Rainy Day To Say Goodbye

The later part of this rainy day brought the surprising news that Heath Ledger was found dead at age 28.

Of course, he first came to my attention with his strong portrayal of Ennis in "Brokeback Mountain", but during his too-brief career, Mr. Ledger has shown himself to be a powerhouse actor who was able to take on a great variety of roles, seemingly as easy as putting on a costume.

Few facts about his death are available just now, but the one thing that's clear is that the end of Ledger's path came entirely too soon and his passing is a sad loss to the entertainment world and the movie-going public. I offer my condolences to his family and friends.

Peaceful journey, Heath. We'll miss you, but we won't be able to quit you, either.
