Chilly Tuesday

Weatherbug reports a temperature of 52 today, but it does feel a little cooler than that. However, no complaints here, especially after receiving reports yesterday of snow (fortunately of the non-accumulating variety) up in the Adirondacks yesterday morning! It's all about perspective, isn't it? Someone somewhere's always got it worse than you.
Of course, the upside of these cloudless nights (and days) is that--in between evening shifts at work and dashing home to watch videotaped season or series finales (Alias late last night) on TV--there's some lovely star-gazing to be had.

On the west side of the house is an old azalea which is preparing to bloom. Just beneath its branches, I found a rose bush already sending branches of flower buds up toward the sky.

Here's another shot of that pretty pink columbine. I didn't notice 'til I looked at this photo that it's being entwined with cowsvetch. Vetch has a nice purple flower later in the season, but it can be kind of chokey. I'll add that to my list for this week's time off...whenever that's going to be.

The purple globe allium is becoming, as you can see, more globe-like.

Here's view from the road of our pond. While they didn't translate in this photo, this morning the pond is alive with what looks like hundreds of smaller birds--flycatchers, I expect--swooping and reeling just above the surface of the pond. Also for that time off, I hope to spend a little time sitting at the edge of the water with my bird guide and binoculars, to get a better idea of who's out there.
