Garden Time

Spent some time early this evening transplanting, in advance of the rains. Some black-eyed susans from the meadow (I think I found another rose bush there, too!), some bellflower seedlings, a few sweet williams, a columbine. Filling in border areas in the back gardens. Not exactly creating order out of chaos, but hopefully beautiful chaotic order...or something.

I also spent some more time sorting out piles of dead grapevines and pruned branches, both of which I plan to make use of one way or another as the days go by. The latter I'll prune down for staking, or for fencing. Who knows what I'll do with the grapevine. Stay tuned.

The bellflower bed, with three plantings of giant bellflower, foxglove, lesser bellflower, calendula, snapdragons, wild daisies, wild phlox, sweet william, oregano, campion and a few mystery guests. Posted by Picasa
Winter Fire tulips, and grape hyacinths, singing the final notes of their duet for 2006.

Here's the Casa Blanca lily which joined the garden last year. Such a fabulous plant, so tall (moreso than it appears at this angle) and so strong looking. It hasn't even bloomed yet and I'm totally in love again.
