Morning in the Garden

This bright sunny morning the tall andromeda outside of our dining room was humming with bees.

After an early morning visit to the dentist for a relatively-painless filling, I was back home to enjoy the sunshine in the garden. There was more weeding in store, of course (I'm still trying to create the right delicate balance of Grass and Not Grass)...and then the planting of some yellow marigolds and purple salvia. It was certainly a beautiful day to be outside.

One of my projects today involved an assortment of branches, which have collected as a result of both pruning and natural winterfall. I seperated out all the relatively straight ones, and pruned off most of the side shoots, so I'll have a nice supply of stakes for supporting various things throughout the season. And one of the happy discoveries in that effort was realizing that the very tips of the pruned apple branches were the perfect support for now-floppy Dutch hyacinths. I washed most of the color out of this shot so you could see just how well they work!
