I always like to check in each spring with the geese who make the Beech Forest area (off of Race Point Road) their home. Usually I visit a little earlier in the season, tho--I don't think I've ever seen the goslings this far along, at nearly half their parents' size. They still have plenty of that cute gosling fuzz, though.

I find the chickadees at Beech Forest are especially friendly, probably from years of living in a picnic area. This little fellow almost landed on my shoulder before deciding to check me out from a nearby branch.

Apparently, I was worth a closer look, since he quickly swooped down to the railing of the footbridge that snakes over the marshy shore of the lake.

A little while later, I'd completed my business in P-town (just a haircut today--thanks, Barry!) and was back in Eastham, where I couldn't resist a quick walk through the garden before getting ready for the work day. With a touch of humidity as the sun burned off the fog, temperature above 60, it was quite inviting. Whispering (or maybe that was the morning bird song), enticing me to stay...and to look.

The purple globe allium is certainly worth looking at again. I just love these flowers that are actually many flowers, and I confess, I'm somehow quite tickled by this particular combination of purple and green.

I was quite popular with chickadees this morning, as this garden resident stopped to give me a look, mouth full of bugs or something, before taking flight again for the nest.

Stars of Bethlehem nestle in beside some Lily of the Valley.

One of the orioles sings from his oak perch, a long trilling tune I have nearly committed to memory. I'm excited to have so many of these guys around our place this year. So many people around here set out orange halves and grape jelly for them...neither of which I've had the opportunity to do so far, and they seem quite happy. I'm told their nest actually hangs from a tree branch and looks a bit sock-like. I look forward to checking that out.

Here's a look at this crazy purple-veined petunia that caught my eye at the nursery the other day.

And in the front driveway garden, two more spiderwort blossoms joined the chorus...and that's how this Saturday got started.

And it draws to a close as I wish Double Happiness Always to Fei and Ben, whose wedding we celebrated at work this evening. (Sadly, none of my pictures came close to doing justice to their lovely flowers.)
