Gray Friday

I forgot to post this shot, taken last evening, as a mourning dove perched in a tree above me, watching me finish up the last of the window box plantings.

I also spotted this bird around the same time. Again, the angle of light was playing with me, so not the clearest shot...it looks too big to be a catbird...but too plain to be a mockingbird.
This morning, I think I saw this bird again, in the robin's nest out in the andromeda. If it was the same bird, it had quite an extensive business of song and chatter going on...sounding more like parakeets I have known when they get riled. Which is where the mockingbird idea came in...

It's a sort of dismal day outside today, dim and gray, with showers poised to begin almost any minute. Hopefully, the showers will come today, and finish early tomorrow...so we don't need to adapt plans for this weekend's wedding.

The first cranesbill blossoms have come on this morning. Here's one of them, and another newly-discovered bit of that tiny blue flower I've been unable to identify in the background.
Here's a first look at some of the planting I did yesterday...a colorful assortment (geranium, petunias, pansies, lantana and this little purple daisy, who's name I've suddenly forgotten from the tag) that will hopefully look even better as days go by.

Three of the other window boxes were planted in red, white and blue themes, but those will more likely be ready in time for July Fourth, and not this Monday's remembrance of veterans.
