A Rose Scented World

Although I was still sleepy after attending a celebration of Brazil's victory at the World Cup last night, I knew from the first moment I was awake that it would be a good day. The sweet scent of roses drifted in through the open window, and before long I was outside on a mission to find them. Here's the first at our place, a pretty pink rose on the west side of the house.

This red rose is blooming between the peach tree and an old wood pile in the back garden. (Half of this rose was rescued and moved into the garden proper last fall, where it is happily climbing my rustic "DNA" trellace, though no buds have yet opened--always nice to have something to look forward to. Perhaps someday I'll move this half to the other side of the path, and they'll meet again on an arbor overhead.)

This wild white roses are considered invasive by some, as they are everywhere, their seeds spread easily by birds and the wind. And their place in the ecosystem is somewhat dubious, to boot. Which isn't to say they aren't also quite lovely on a warm spring day.
