The first yellow sulphur cosmos flower opened this morning, encouraged by one more rainstorm that came in the night. These happy little fellows--like the calendula-- are a great substitute for(or addition to) marigolds, if it's low golden color you're after.

At first I thought it was like all the others. But on closer examination, this pale pink foxglove isn't anything like its purple or white cousins. We celebrate its uniqueness--and at the same time--take a moment to celebrate everyone whose individuality contributes to the great cottage garden of life!

One last yellow daylily joins today's Solstice celebration. I wish they could stay around longer, but their orange relatives will soon be stepping onstage to brighten our days.
