It came with little fanfare, no booming or flashing, or eggs stood on end. But at 8:28 a.m. this morning, Summer arrived, nonetheless. The first quiet moments of the season are among its best, I think.
Posted by PicasaThe first yellow sulphur cosmos flower opened this morning, encouraged by one more rainstorm that came in the night. These happy little fellows--like the calendula-- are a great substitute for(or addition to) marigolds, if it's low golden color you're after.

Posted by PicasaAt first I thought it was like all the others. But on closer examination, this pale pink foxglove isn't anything like its purple or white cousins. We celebrate its uniqueness--and at the same time--take a moment to celebrate everyone whose individuality contributes to the great cottage garden of life!
