Bits and Signs

Well, really, I'd be pretty justified in letting The Cranky Gardener have the stage this evening, seeing as how Blogger doesn't seem to like the idea of me uploading any photos to the blog tonight. I'd hoped it was a temporary thing, but after trying on and off most of the evening, I'm giving it up as an unworthy business...for tonight, anyway.

But the good news is that, I've recently discovered Firefly, the SCIFI series by Joss Whedon, which was sent my way by a good friend (thanks, Bob!), who'd been turned onto it himself by another mutual friend of ours (thanks, Heather!). I'd been meaning to watch it for a while, but other things distracted. Fortunately, I finally gave it a spin last night, and it is just AMAZING. I can't say exactly what it is. Of course, I love any sort of scifi/space drama and this is that. There's that Nathan Fillion as Capt. Mal Reynolds, and my eyes and I surely cannot get enough of him...and frankly, there's not a soul in the show who isn't easy on the eyes (well, unless the Reavers got to 'em first...)...so it might be the cast, who are also quite talented beyond appearances, too. The costume and set design is interesting, pulling elements from past, present and future together into a kind of timeless fantasy setting I enjoy.

Of course, Whedon is almost always a pleasure, no matter what he applies himself to (which is why, Joss, I am still so very disappointed that you walked away from the whole "Wonder Woman" movie project...won't you please reconsider?), so that I love the series isn't a surprise, really.

Anyway, doesn't matter, I'm enjoying the heck out of the show and I see the inability to upload tonight as a sort of Easy Out, meaning I can go back to watch another episode. Although I might take a peek for any early Perseid meteors out there in the dark night sky.

I was prepared to talk to you a bit more about deadheading and how you need to be careful doing it with Shasta Daisies because you don't want to accidentally cut too low so you don't chop off the little flower buds of any successive bloom there might be...and also the agastache has grown so since I last showed it off. But whatever. Tomorrow is another day.

As we have said before, fiddle dee dee.

I learned this afternoon that the annual Carnival Parade in Provincetown this year will be in just a couple short weeks, on Thursday, August 21st. Details on all of Carnival Week's festivities here. This year's theme is "Wild Wild West", so there should be plenty of indecently-clad cowboys; how could that not be fun. So far my schedule's free, so I'm hoping to be there. Let me know if you will?

Anyway, for additional random-ocity, I'll just say I was sort of tickled to find this in my extended horoscope today, as it reinforces a message my brain's been shouting at me a lot lately:

"The friendships in your life are becoming more and more important as a source of your healthy self esteem, and that is a very good thing. You are loved by your friends, and they are people who accept you for the imperfect but wonderful person you are. Make it a priority to spend time with as many friends as you can -- they should even take precedence over your partner or family right now. They're the family you choose, and they would love more time with you."
Holy crap...I made one last try and it let me upload a picture finally. And just the one I wanted it to. So here's the deal, folks: if the Universe is trying to tell you something...

...pay attention.

into all things, balance must be maintained. you could spend more time with friends so long as you include your bf. that way you kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. :D

I'm in the process of composing a new post about paying attention to the message of the Universe. How, I don't know, ironic or something.

First, I am not a television sci/fi fan in the slightest (sets and costumes and special effects tend to look REALLY fakes and cheesy) unless it's Battlestar Galactica, which is movie quality and amazing to the core, BUT Firefly is gosh dang amazing indeed. AMAZING, I say! A friend turned me on to it a few years back and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Nathan Fillion included. Enjoy it and then RE-enjoy it and then watch the movie but DO NOT watch the movie until after you have completed the series.

Second, ALWAYS pay attention when The Universe tells you something. GOOD MAN!

Sorry I've been absent Greg. I promise to catch up. And I'm intrigued by the whole "dead-heading" thing.

Dykewife, don't tempt me toward killing things! ; ) I rather see this message as already restoring a balance long neglected, though I thank you for the suggestion.

Java, it should be no surprise that our messages are reinforcing one another!

Curt, what a great show it is! No worries about your recent hiatus...we all need that time now and then to listen to what the universe has got to say! Welcome back! And thanks for the recent tip about butterflies and wishes...

Hey there, not-so-Cranky Gardener. :) Yes, indeedy, Blogger not cooperating certainly does know how to push one's buttons. But glad it's all resolved.

Email if you feel the need to vent about life, the universe, blogger or everything. And re: Firefly-- Say "hi" to Alan Tudyk for me! :)

Alan Tudyk's pretty great, too, Jenn! I'll be sure to think of you as I watch another episode or two tonight!

Ahh, Firefly. I watched it during its original run.

And got one of my friends hooked on it. It is way addictive.
