Cat Stuff...and Coffee

Here's my very handsome and charming roommate, as seen on one of his favorite new promontories...the bathroom sink. As you can see, the bathroom is still pink, but that is the next painting project on the docket once I finish up the living room this week. Small dinner event at work this evening, so there will probably be no painting when I get home. We'll see if I am motivated to mask the woodwork and such before heading in to the office this morning.

Badum and I were very pleased to get an email from Mom and Dad last night, and learn that Dewey Cat had returned, apparently no worse for wear, from his walkabout experience after escaping into his new Connecticut neighborhood.

During his absence, I'd remained positive. After all, he's a smart "little" kitty, who knows where all his catnip toys and treats and people are...and while he was surely interested to explore his new surroundings, I'm sure he was as happy to return home as Mom and Dad were to see him in the driveway.

Meanwhile, I spent the customary fifteen minutes or so in bed this morning, trying to cajole my gray buddy into getting up and hitting the button that would turn on the coffee maker in the kitchen. I should've bought one with a timer...

It's not easy, nor is there much interest, in getting out from under the covers when there's a warm kitty nestled against your legs, purring his head off. Of course, since he has no need of caffeine and was at least as comfy as me, I had no luck getting him to turn the coffee on.

I wonder, if I set up a network of eyehooks and string...it could run up the bedroom wall, across the ceiling, through the dining room, into the kitchen and then...hmmm, I'd have adapt something to actually flip the switch on the coffee maker...and I AM hesitant to drive a bunch of eye hooks into those newly-painted walls. Thank goodness I have those monkey slippers to slide my feet into as I finally drag myself out from beneath the covers and trudge toward the kitchen.

Here we are, re-snuggling after getting up to turn on the necessary appliances, but returned to bed to await the brewed coffee and listen to the latest bad news as gently presented by NPR. As you can see, my little gray pal was a little suspicious of the appearance of a camera, but I had the flash turned off...and once I'd snapped the picture, it was all about the belly rubbing, at least until that coffee was ready.

What a handsome kitty he is! I'm sure his warm fuzzy friendliness more than compensates for his inability to turn on the coffee maker.

The whole idea of a Rube Goldberg contraption strung up to start the coffee is, I don't know, a bit too complex for the serenity of a gardener's nest. IMHO.

He is just an incredibly pretty cat. I love the grey color.

And as for your Rube Goldberg coffee hook up, um, Greg-- have you considered just getting a coffee maker with a timer? :)

I'll have to find someone to play reveille on the trumpet outside your window in the morning. ;-) I agree about the eyehooks. Time for a new coffee maker. And when the cold winter season arrives, it will be needed even moreso.

The colour of him, makes for one pretty kitty!

It's always all about the belly rubbing! :)

In fact, that works for all three of the dogs. Actually, it usually works pretty well for Marc, too, although that may not be _all_ about the belly rubbing! ;)

What an proud and regal creature. Not only is his coloring amazing but it's the intelligence in his eyes and face that really got me. This is no ordinary cat (if there is such a thing) but he is very aware and self contained and assured. Really amazing to see. I don't think I've ever seen it to that extent in a cat. That top pic is stunning as well. Oh, I am so glad you have each other. I believe getting to know another species and having them for a friend really makes us better humans. You're in my thoughts and I'm sending hugs, Robin

You have a gorgeous feline. Is Badum as substantial as he looks? You have it backward about getting him to make your coffee, though; you're the staff.

it does make me wish i weren't allergic to kitties and able to tolerate them in my bedroom again. *sigh* (epic proportions on that one). i miss the warm snugglies and the deep purr sound as the morning pet session gets underway.

I told you butterflies will never lead you astray! I'm so happy the kitty returned home and that you're getting some extra cuddles from your own. You're a blessed soul.

Glad to hear that your parents Dewey cat is safe home again, losing a cat is horrible. Your cat is so beautiful and plush, so very strokeable looking, please give him an extra belly rub from me! I miss my lovely old cat :(

What a beautifully regal friend you have in Badum. Is that a picture directly behind the second picture? I'm seeing a woman's face just above Badum, and the bedding.

Returning to a still-warm bed after the morning's first sortie into the world is some kind of bliss... especially if there's a warm belly-cat enabler waiting for me.

Ah, at last, my computer is letting me comment on blogs again! Badum is indeed a special kitty; in my brief weekend with him, I found him to be remarkably cheerful and affectionate. And I think I've mentioned before, I always love a cat who enjoys having his belly rubbed. I suspect Badum is an exceptionally empathetic cat too, not just clever. He just seemed to have a sense of when purring and cuddling would be most appreciated, and didn't ONLY do it when he wanted to.
When he still lived here, I tried to talk Coltrane into doing some sweeping up around the house (I would have asked him to turn on the coffee maker, but as a Dachshund he lacks Badum's ease with high spaces). He was home alone all day, I explained, not helping with rent, and the herd of dust ponies were made up mostly of his fur. He would just wag his tail and turn on the Bambi eyes until I gave up, though.

Well, my friends, it's clear to me I should abandon this idea of a garden blog and refocus my efforts on one celebrating the every move of my favorite feline!

Fear not, I shan't...too many flowers to share with you all...but I will be sure to always give him his due.

A few points:

Birdie, you are absolutely right. I was mistaken, and live only to serve him.

Butch, yes indeed, that's a woman's face peering at you from a stack of artwork against the bedroom wall waiting for the conclusion of all painting...

...and Patrick, you are absolutely right about Badum--he is always willing to share the purring and the rubbing and such when it is most needed and welcome!

lol yeah flowers suck, more cat please! (just kidding) There are no flowers in winter though, so you'll have to switch to kitty. I dare you to post a picture of her dirty catbox.

And I love the fall pictures below.

Oh, I see how it is, Torn. Just for that, I'll go seek out some morning glory photos. I know they drive you crazy.

As for the catbox, I'll be sure to ask Badum if HE minds if I share it...but it'll be a day or two, we just cleaned out today!

; )

Your cat is sehr cute.

And I love the stars pic.

Yes, I also extol the purchase of a coffee maker with a timer. I replaced my last one with one with a timer and it is easier to get out of bed with the knowledge that coffee is there, waiting for you. And the smell does help the clawing through the barrier between sleep and waking.

Lovely cat. We just got 2 kittens,so I hope we will have great experiences as well

The last image is indeed impressive, could it be your cat is talking to you when you're sleeping and prefers not to talk when you awakening, only to prevent appearing strange.

Ah, yes - what is a home without your favorite feline. Dewey is safely at home and realizing just how good he has it....or how good we have it that he has honored us with his return. Snuggling between us and under the bedspread, bringing me the favorite toy turtle in the morning, all is well is this household.

Sign me up for the Badum fan club. My kitty thinks belly rubbing is a blood sport. You've got a keeper there--but I'm sure you know that.
