Adirondack Railroading

The Midnight Gardener is also a huge fan of railroads, so I couldn't resist a short detour through the town of North Creek as I made my way out of the Adirondacks this morning.

I was lucky enough to discover a train crew doing a small switching operation, in preperation for the coming excursion season. This train operates in conjunction with the North Creek Depot Museum. It was here in September 1901 that a special train waited to take Teddy Roosevelt from a Adirondack hunting trip to be sworn in as the 26th President of the United States following the assassination of President McKinley at the World's Fair in Buffalo.

Of course, that was a steam locomotive, not this glistening beast of the (then) Future. I'm a particular fan of the old Delaware and Hudson livery in which this diesel is painted, so I was happy to be able to watch it work for a few minutes before returning to the highway.
