Garden Beat

Cooler temperatures this evening, though the peepers continue with enthusiasm unbridled. They'll no doubt love the rain that's coming our way...and I have a feeling this place is going to explode with green once that rain arrives. There's new shoots and leaves pushing up all over the place, and the buds on the trees and shrubs are swelling nicely. Guess there's a chance of snow in our forecast, too. Stranger things have happened in April.

In the side yard, an angry squirrel chatters and spits from the safety of a white pine's higher branches, scolding a neighbor cat who'd been stalking the squirrel stalking the bird feeder.

My lovely purple crocuses, at the end of their beauty anyway, have been eaten. As there are no hoof prints, or other evidence of deer, I'm assuming the nearby bunny family as the likely culprits. Recently those first lupine leaves had been nibbled away as well. They seem to be bouncing back. Hmmm. I may have to do something to distract them...but what to do...
