That Spring Thang

The hyacinths, as you can see, are coming into their own just in time for Easter. How I love the scent of them on the breeze.

And we certainly have plenty of breeze today. Wind, more like, rattling the remaining storm windows, making the trees dance. There's a chance of showers, which would be most welcome after this lovely sunny week. This pretty orange-cupped daffodil is alone in a crowd in the garden along the back of the house. As you'll see, all the others are yellow on yellow. Isn't it nice to be a little different...

I think the blue hyacinths are my favorite, and perhaps the most strongly scented. This one, I believe, was a grocery store purchase for Easter last year.

A brief break in overcast skies casts the spotlight on these all-yellow daffs.

Every day there are more blossoms on the myrtle that grows all around the house.

We have lots of daffodils coming up in a variety of places. Last evening, as I tried to bring order to a wild looking stand of roses, I re-discovered a number of large daffodil foliage clumps, which have probably not bloomed in a few years. Later on this spring I'll dig, divide and replant them, spreading their sunshiny flowers a little further throughout the garden.

Here's an awkward view of the little forsythia shrub we've got planted out by our little pond. It should be much larger for its age, but this is one of those bushes that's seen as many different yards and gardens as we have in the past ten years.
