Traffic Island Stop

Yesterday on the way to work, I spied this lovely traffic island planting. Such a terrific combination of bulbs...so many varieties, all coming into bloom at more or less the same time. Coordination like this is no accident.

This morning I not only had my camera along for the ride, but left the house ahead of schedule (a real occasion, that...), and so had a moment to stop for a closer look at this traffic island where Cole and Herringbrook Roads meet. This is just one of a host of islands throughout Eastham that are so well-cared for and landscaped. They are one of the true pleasures of summer here (tho most are quite nice year-round), and I think the folks who care for them (you see them with hoses and watering cans and rakes and shovels all year long) are undersung. As traffic allows when I see them, I slow down or stop to offer my appreciation.

A singular beauty.

This daffodil strikes me as a little clownish. Maybe it was the carnival color scheme of its neighbors for context that made me think it.
