A Pink Carnation

Two years ago, I was transplanting some hostas in the bed around the feet of the rhododendrons out front, and a chance gravitational episode (dropped my shovel) called my attention to a clump of blue-green grassy foliage growing in the center of the seashell path. Fortunately, I somehow recognized this as something other than just grass, and transplanted it and another clump (found by comparison to the first) of it into the back garden beds.

This spring, that effort bears fruit...or flower, at least, as the more sunnily-situated of the two clumps has recently thrust its slender flower stalks up into the breeze (they are staked, but I may as well try to tie Jell-O for their ability to flop around and get free)and today offered this first single pink carnation as reward for the discovery.

Isn't that something?
