Thumper George, 1997 - 2008

I'm sorry to report to you all that our bunny, Thumper George, passed on to the golden fields of Frith this morning.

George was eleven years old, which means he's had a pretty long and happy life for a domestic bunny. In his early years, we briefly tried him out as an indoor bunny, but he (and the phone cords) preferred that he live outdoors. He shared a home his first year with (and had hoped for romance with) our guinea pig, Sweetie.

He's traveled with us for each of our six moves in the last ten years, so he was one of the most well-traveled rabbits I know. One day, he actually spoke to me...or so it seemed at the time.

Spent pansy blossoms were his particular favorite treat. I won't know what to do with my dead- headings this summer.

Here's a photo of T.G. and his big sis, Emily, taken in Wellfleet about seven years ago.

We will miss you, George.

Oh, I'm so sorry about George, Greg! He sure was an adorable fluffball. Lookit that face!

You need to tell folks the story of George "talking." That was hysterical. I still laugh when I think about it. That's a lovely memory.

So sorry to hear about Thumper George. He certainly lived a long life and might have been the most highly traveled bunny on the Cape.

He also had some nice gourmet meals and must have seen lots through his little eyes.

Greg, I'm so sorry to hear of George's passing. I only remember one encounter with him - after he'd been parted from his true love the guinea pig - when Bob went to a great deal of trouble to fill George's water dish and George managed to knock it over _and_ get Bob wet. He was quite a character.

I love reading your blog, but I really hate stuff like this. Makes me cry like a baby. But for what it's worth, George had what many other rabbits can only dream of, and some don't even live long enough to dream at all. He graced your life just like you graced his; unfortunately death is inevitable part of our lives, but the loving memory of him and the wonderful years you both spent, lasts an eternity.
