Here's a few more signs that spring is well underway here.

* Those sunflower seedlings which have appeared (a nice percentage, considering the age of the seeds) are now beginning to show secondary leaves. This means it's time to ditch the dud pots, get these seedlings into slightly larger pots and then get a fresh wave of seeds planted this week. It may also be time to get some sweet allyssum seeds scattered along the borders of the actual garden bed.

* We began our Saturday with a short thunderstorm that brought along some hail as an additional bonus. Rain showers are in the forecast for the rest of the day, as well.

* There's a algae-clogged filter from the fish pond soaking in the kitchen sink, waiting to be rinsed out.

* A reduced-speed warning was recently posted for mariners in the waters off the Outer Cape, as a group of about 50 to 70 right whales have been spotted feeding out there. The New York Times features a story this morning about why this is important.

* Various clumps of daylily foliage throughout the garden are getting downright large. In an effort to keep up, most of the other perennials are showing additional, if still less-noticeable (to the unaccustomed eye) signs of growth.

I hope your sunflowers end up 8' tall. Love the paper pots, I have to get me one of those paper pot makers. Any Idea where?

I enjoy reading about gardening and spring is my favorite time of the year.

Hi Don! My paper pot maker was a free gift for ordering seeds from Burpee quite a number of years ago.

I just checked: you can order one of your very own through Burpee here: http://www.burpee.com/product/seed+starting/potmaker-+1+potmaker.do

It's a great little tool to have around...

Butch, I'll pass out cigars when we reach the eight foot mark, but yah, I'm a proud papa, for sure!

Darn me for not reading more carefully...I just re-read the Burpee page linked above, and see that the potmaker is viewable, but currently not available.

So sorry...check back later in the season to see if they've restocked, I guess...or ask about them at your favorite nursery!

Well I can see by reading these comments that I'm not the only one interested in the 'paper' pots. I thought maybe you made the yourself somehow??
..They are a great idea!

Liz, I love that paper pot maker tool...and I sincerely hope each of you finds one--not do I have a steady supply of pots, but of course there's the whole re-cycling bonus.

If I stumble across a new supplier, I will post it, for sure!!!
